Pentecost with Bishop Rhiannon
We are delighted that Bishop Rhiannon came to celebrate Pentecost with us.
Bishop Rhiannon visited two of our churches on Pentecost Sunday and joined us for lunch afterwards.
In her sermon she talked about how the shape of a Bishop’s mitre is representative of the tongues of fire resting on the disciples, filling them with the Holy Spirit. She passed her mitre round the congregation so we could see the inscription inside it - ‘God fills us’.
She also talked about the meaning of Pentecost using the acrostic she had written:
- Plenty of Joy
- Everyone Welcome
- New Life begins
- Transformed Lives
- Empowered for Service
- Courage to Witness
- One Body in Christ
- Spirit of Peace
- Tell of God’s work
She also gave chocolate to the person who could recite the acrostic from memory by the end of the sermon!
We concluded our celebration of Pentecost with the congregation lighting candles from the Easter candle, symbolising the spread of the Holy Spirit.
